613 HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE: STYLE

If you've been around this little old blog for a while then you'll know that I'm no stranger to style. When it came to brainstorming these gift guides I knew that style was a category I couldn't leave out. Ottawa has a wealth of boutique stores that are stocked with incredible Canadian made pieces that I love, but an urban craft pop-up may not be the first place your mind goes when you think about shopping for clothing.

Whether you're working on building your own wishlist or looking for the perfect piece to pick up for your siblings, dad, mother-in-law, or even your best friend, I've got you covered with the 613 style gift guide. This may be one of my favourite gift guides to put together.

T's Crochet Shoppe

There's no denying it now after today's snowfall. Winter is here. With winter comes the undeniable need to stay warm but who says you can't look fashionable and be warm at the same time? As someone who is cold all the time I've made it a priority to find stylish yet practical pieces to don during the colder months. Enter T's Crochet Shoppe. She makes these beautiful products by hand! Tanya's products are the perfect mix of fashion and function.

The Brooklyn beanie is my favourite! In an assortment of colours (navy, grey as pictured, and wine) and fluffy pom-poms, this little number will compliment any overbearingly warm, down-filled, knee-length winter parka (is mine the only winter jacket that is obnoxiously warm and large? What can I say, I can't handle winter!)

The Jade headband as pictured a perfect option for milder days. This doesn't have to be limited to outerwear either! This could be paired with a knit sweater and a pair of jeans for a casual look for coffee with friends or an afternoon at the movies.

Tanya's products aren't limited to crocheted goodness just for your noggin! Check out her triangle scarf or cowl hood. Give the gift of warmth this holiday. I promise the person you're gifting one of these beautiful pieces will be extremely thankful!

Price point: Headbands start at $25, beanies start at $36, scarves start at $50.

Thread Work
Big thanks to my boyfriend for stepping in to model these t-shirts! I could never make them look that good!

Who doesn't love a unique t-shirt to pair under a cardigan for the cooler months or to wear with shorts when the sun is blazing. Thread Work has the neatest t-shirts! Their tee's are knitted and dyed in Canada (YES!) using non-toxic materials. Every t-shirt they print on has bamboo fibres in it!

One of my favourite parts of gift giving is when the gift has a story to it. These t-shirts have just that. Handmade in Almonte and limited to a certain number of prints per run, these take a twist on your classic t-shirt.

A mix of men and women's t-shirts make these the perfect gift to give your brother, your aunt, or even your grandma! My personal favourite is the the Land Camera tee. Andrew is wearing the Arrow Bison above and the Sailboat below.

The price of these t-shirts are on par with a t-shirt you'd buy from a big box store, so why not support local and add a unique piece to someone's closet! If you aren't in Ottawa then I have good news for you - shipping on orders in Canada is only $1.95, or if your order is over $50 then shipping is free! Now you really have no excuse to not add one of these tee's to your holiday shopping list!

Price point: All tee's are $39.

You may have seen Birch Jewellery in my So Long to Summer styled shoot post. I have loved Samantha's pieces since I laid eyes on them and couldn't be more excited to share her jewellery in this gift guide.

She breathes new life into the statement necklace. The woodland vibe with silver or gold pinecones, deer antlers, or chickadee stud earrings are complimented by the crystal bullets and leather tassels making her pieces a subtle statement with any outfit. I love that her earrings are a statement in and of themselves. Sam's pieces would make the perfect stocking stuffer or keepsake gift under the tree for a special someone.

I think the pinecone has to be my personal favourite! A nod to the woodland beauty that is now buried under the snow...

Price point: Earrings start at $20, necklaces range from $20-$50. Check out her gift sets for the holidays (ring + earrings set) which  start at $35.

If you're an Ottawa gal you've likely heard of Blondie Apparel or you've seen someone wearing her designs and not realized it.

I bought my plaid Trinity vest (pictured) at the Etsy Made in Canada market in September and get compliments on it every time I wear it. Last year I gifted Andrew's mom one of her winter ponchos and have thought about getting one for myself since! Blondie Apparel's products aren't like anything you'd find at a big box store. Each piece is handmade (my vest was made the morning I bought it!!!) with care and craftmanship to make each piece exclusive to it's lucky owner.

Blondie Apparel offers a wide variety of products to suit everyone's individual style and needs. I love the Huntsman Kimono and the East End Sweater! Outfit your famjam or bestie in one of Ottawa's best-known makers! Or even better, add one of her coveted pieces to your wishlist this year!

Price point: Trinity vest starts at $67, tunics start at $72, ponchos start at $82, scarves start at $42 and sweaters start at $85.

Where to find Blondie Apparel this holiday (including outside of Ottawa!):
  • Mistletoe and Ivy Handmade Market, November 26, 2016 at the Bronson Centre
  • Holiday Makers Market, November 26, 2016 at the Old Shoe Factory in Perth, ON
  • One of a Kind Show, November 24-December 4, 2016 at the Enercare Centre, Toronto, ON
  • Freewheeling Craft Christmas Market, December 3-4, 2016 at the Glebe Community Centre
  • or shop local at JV Studios at 1282A Wellington West, Ottawa ON or her Etsy shop!

This, my friends, is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to where to find stylish pieces for the fashionista in your life, or something a little different for your Secret Santa! If you're in Ottawa be sure to check out all of the great Christmas markets that are popping up around the city in the coming weeks! I'll be there to cross a few people off my 'to buy for' list and hope to see some of you guys there too!
